Book Review: “Some Kind of Courage” by Dan Gemeinhart

YEEEEEHAWWW! Dan Gemeinhart, author of The Honest Truthis back with another terrifically spun yarn.somekindofcourage

Set in the wild, wild, west of Washington state, Joseph Johnson is hot on the trail of the man who unlawfully bought his dear horse, Sarah. After losing his ma and pa and little sister, his pony is all he has left in the world. Accompanied by a companion by the name of Ah-Kee and the wisdom imparted to him from the family he has lost, Joseph will stop at nothing until he sees that Sarah is returned to her rightful home. Facing grizzly bears, outlaws, raging rivers, and the threat of the looming winter weather, this action packed novel is sure to keep you on the edge of your saddle.

Dan Gemeinhart shows us that he can masterfully write a white-knuckled, river-rapid, ride of a book. Readers are on a locomotive of emotion that takes them from the peaks of the highest mountains to the bottom of the lowest valleys on the frontier and back up again, all with the turn of a page.

Gemeinhart once again creates a strong but sensitive male protagonist in Joseph Johnson. Young readers are reminded that even men who are tough as rawhide cry about losses, reflect on memories, and let out frustrations – then they pick themselves up by the bootstraps and get back to business.

I simply cannot wait to share this book with my class and every reader I know.
